Technegas

Leading the Way in Ventilation Imaging

What is the Technegas Plus system?

The Technegas Plus system is a device which creates Technegas; an ultrafine dispersion of Tc99m labeled carbon used for Nuclear Medicine Ventilation/Perfusion (V/Q) exams. V/Q imaging is one of several techniques used to diagnose PE and Technegas has proven to be superior compared to the typical aerosol agents including Xenon-133 gas, Krypton-81 gas and Technetium 99m.

What are the advantages of Technegas?

Technegas offers significant advantages over all other agents because it behaves as a true gas allowing its nano-sized particles to penetrate deep into the alveoli where they remain bound to the lining of the alveoli resulting in a very stable image of the highest quality. Showing a higher sensitivity and specificity result over traditional planar V/Q, Technegas is considered the agent of choice for quality SPECT-VQ.

How does the Technegas Plus system work?

The Technegas Plus system vapourises a small dose of Tc99m Pertechnetate injected into a carbon crucible in the presence of argon. The result is a carbon nano-particle labeled with reduced Technetium suspended in pure argon. The ‘gas suspension’, once produced, is safely contained within a chamber in the self -shielded generator. The gas is inhaled by the patient through a disposable breather kit.

With as little as 1-3 easy breaths of the Technegas, the full dose required for high count, high quality images is delivered deep into the lungs. This short and easy administration process results in reduced patient stress and reduced radiation exposure to the Technologist. And because the Technegas Plus system is mobile, it can be stationed anywhere in the department or readily wheeled to the patient, resulting in more efficient use of scan rooms and overall benefits to the departmental work flow.
