Our Product
Cyclomedica Canada is the exclusive provider of Technegas Generator Systems to the Canadian market. The Technegas Generator produces Technegas, which is used in the diagnosis of Pulmonary Embolism (PE.)
For years, patients presenting with the possible diagnosis of Pulmonary Embolism (PE) underwent a Nuclear Medicine Ventilation/Perfusion exam. The results were often sub-optimal due to the limitations of the imaging agents available. Because PE is a very common and potentially fatal condition that affects a as many as 600,000 patients annually in the US alone, with a mortality rate of up to 15%, the limitations of the current imaging agents motivated Cyclomedica to develop a superior agent for the Nuclear Medicine Ventilation/Perfusion exam.
In 1986, Cyclomedica Australia PTY Limited released Technegas as a new imaging agent which has since been recognized as the agent of choice for Ventilation/Perfusion exams in the diagnosis of Pulmonary Embolism.
The Canadian Nuclear Medicine community readily adopted Technegas and advocated it’s use as the standard imaging agent for PE resulting in a majority user base across Canada. In addition to improving the current state of imaging PE, Technegas paved the way for improved clinical diagnosis with the ability to replace 2D imaging with SPECT (3D) imaging. SPECT imaging with Technegas provides clinicians more sensitivity in diagnosing PE with much less radiation burden to the patient, which has become a focus of concern for imaging technologies in the last several years.
On the inherent strengths of Technegas, Cyclomedica Canada has built a strong and stable presence in the Nuclear Medicine community in Canada and consistently represents more than 12% of the world wide revenue for Cyclopharm, Australia.
